4 try to extort money as scribes, held
Surat/Bharuch: The Ankleshwar GIDC police arrested four people, including a woman, for trying to extort Rs 2 lakh from a businessman by posing as journalists.
The accused approached the promoter of Harihar Chemicals, Kishore Patel, and sought money to avoid raids by central agencies over licence violations. Patel got suspicious and informed the police who arrested Sunita Patel, Bharat Mistry, Vinod Jadav and Mahendra Vasava.
They had told Patel that they get commissions from agencies on giving information about violations of laws by chemical units. They even threatened to get his company shut down if he did not pay them. tnn
