Ranchi: CPI leader and former MP Bhubaneshwar Mehta on Wednesday reiterated the demand for the formation of a commission for the displaced people in the state, saying most of the land losers during the setting up of various projects are not getting justice.
Addressing media persons at his party’s headquarters, Mehta said the commission for displaced persons has not been formed even after four years since the current government has been installed. “CPI will hold a demonstration in front of the
Raj Bhavan on the issue on June 28,” he said.
Mehta claimed that the land of the farmers is being forcibly acquired at cheap rates for coal blocks allocated to private companies, including Adani, Jindal and Miital at Barkagaon in Hazaribag and other areas. He said the surplus land of projects, which was acquired by the state from the farmers, is now being sold by the government. CPI state secretary Mahendra Pathak said according to the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act 2013, the surplus land should have been returned to the farmers.
He said due to the lack of a local policy and employment policy, educated youths are unemployed at present. The Union government has also cheated the farmers on the issue of minimum support price, Pathak added.
