On a summer evening two years ago, 20-year-old Korotoum Dao was on the sidewalk along Reading Road in Mount Auburn when an SUV drove off the road and struck her.

Dao, who was pregnant, was taken to a local hospital where she died. She underwent emergency surgery to deliver her unborn baby, but the baby also died.

The driver of the SUV, 33-year-old Anthony J. Cioffi, was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison.

Cioffi, an Edgewood, Kentucky resident, pleaded guilty last month in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide.

Judge Tom Heekin imposed a sentence that had been agreed upon as part of the plea.

Cioffi did not make a statement during Thursday’s sentencing.

The crash happened June 16, 2021, in the 2500 block of Reading Road.

Cioffi’s BMW X5 went off the side of the road and struck a telephone pole before hitting Dou, then a building, police said.

Both Cioffi and a 29-year-old male passenger in his SUV suffered injuries. Cioffi had a broken leg, two torn knee ligaments and several fractured ribs, according to court documents.

An attorney for Cioffi said in court documents that the crash was an accident − it "lacked intent and was unexpected."

He was driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time, according to police.
