Chief minister Eknath Shinde announced on Wednesday that the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is on track to open for air traffic next year. “They (project implementors) said December next year, but we have told them to try and start operations by March, April or latest by May. That is when at least flights should take off. For that the state government will give them full cooperation,” Shinde said, emphasizing that the airport holds significance not only for the state but also for the country. He, along with deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, conducted an aerial inspection of the airport site to ensure timely completion. Rape-murder of student in Mumbai: NCP delegation meets DGP, demands security at women's hostels

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday demanded that female police officials regularly visit women's hostels across Maharashtra to ensure that security measures are in place on those premises. An NCP delegation submitted a memorandum with demands over women's safety to Director General of Police (DGP) Rajnish Seth, a day after the rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl in a Mumbai hostel came to light.

ED raided premises of Nirmal Lifestyle company and its promoters in a money laundering case. Earlier the EOW of the Mumbai police had arrested the company's two directors, Dharmesh Jain and Rajiv Jain, for cheating 54 home buyers.
