Software update for domicile certificate applications ends out of turn processing
Nagpur: Last week’s software update to state government’s domicile certificate processing application now ensures that out of turn requests cannot be entertained. Currently, there is huge demand for domicile certificates as students are rushing for admissions to various colleges.
While many parents have applied in March or April itself, it is not uncommon for applications to filed in June when results of state board Std X (SSC) are declared. But starting last week, all late applicants will now have to wait till their turn comes.
Suryakant Patil, tehsildar magistrate, said, “About three days ago the software implemented the First-in First-out (FIFO) policy. Now, till the earlier applications get cleared from the system, the next batch will not show up for processing.”
In Nagpur, on Monday afternoon there were over 2,000 applications awaiting processing.
The FIFO system has also made life easier for officials because now out of turn applications cannot be entertained. While on the computer screen officials can view all applications, the FIFO system does not allow anyone to process any application till the previous set is cleared. Once an application is eligible for processing, an orange tab appears next to it and ‘action’ can be taken by the official. Else, the application only has a blue tab, which merely allows officials to view the application.
This initiative by the government may also prove to be the death knell for touts. Looking to cash in on parents’ need for quick domicile certificates, may touts operating near government offices claim to have ‘contacts’ which can help applicants bypass the long queue. While that may well have been true in the earlier system, FIFO software update has ended any chance of such things happening.
An official told TOI that the online portal has real time updates of applications which can be tracked by all officials who have been granted access.
