Coimbatore: To facilitate construction work of the Avinashi Road flyover, the city police have made changes in the traffic pattern at Lakshmi Mills Junction from Tuesday.
As per the changes, the red signal on the junction would be enforced only to allow pedestrians to cross the roads. Otherwise, vehicles coming from all directions would be allowed to pass through. “For every three minutes, the signal would change to red for 35 seconds to stop vehicles in all directions and allow pedestrians to cross the roads. Police personnel have been posted in all four corners of the junction,” a police officer said.
Vehicles approaching the signal from Puliakulam Road and New Scheme Road can take a left or make a U-turn.
N Mathivanan, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), told TOI the changes were made to facilitate the construction of a pillar for the flyover. “The construction of the pillar, which comes right in the middle of the junction, has begun. We are using the opportunity to check the possibility of implementing vehicular movement without traffic signals.”
