Kanpur: District magistrate Vishakh G Iyer on Wednesday asked the Food Security and Drug Administration to bring all hotels and restaurants under the purview of hygiene ratings and said the department should coordinate with Hotel/Restaurant Association in this regard. He was addressing a workshop on the topic ‘Food Standards Save Lives’ organised by FSDA Kanpur Nagar and Indian Industries Association jointly to observe World Food Security day.
Food security department should implement a Hygiene rating system to provide information to the consumer regarding food quality and compliance of food Security standards of hotels and restaurants, he said and suggested encouraging food tourism in the district with coordination between FSDA and food traders/entrepreneurs from different parts of the district.
He directed FSDA to spread awareness about benefits of consuming millets and use it more in meals. The DM informed that very soon samples taken by the FSDA would be tested in the district as a testing lab was being constructed on warfooting in Kanpur nagar to examine and
test the samples.
BAI lab director Sandip Patil, associate professor HBTU Anurag Singh, assistant commissioner (food- II) Vijay Pratap Singh, besides Sunil Vaishya, Naveen Khanna and office-bearers of other associations were also present.
