The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has admitted to potentially paying lower taxes than required in India, according to officials from the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). In an email to the tax department, the broadcaster confessed to underreporting detected income, which is considered 'tax evasion.' The underreported amount is estimated to be around $4.8 million (Rs 40 crore), and the BBC may face recovery and penalty measures. The BBC, funded by the UK government, acknowledged its possible tax discrepancies in India.
