Depression over Arabian Sea to lead to squally weather in Goa: IMD
Sea conditions are expected to be rough along the Goa coast till Saturday
PANAJI: A depression that has formed over the southeast Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Arabian Sea and the adjoining southeast during the next 12 hours. The India meteorological department (IMD) has warned of squally weather owing to this phenomenon, and warned fishermen against venturing into the sea over the next couple of days.

The IMD states that gale wind speeds reaching 65-75kmph gusting to 85kpmh are are likely to become 80-90kmph gusting to 100kmph on Wednesday night over the east-central Arabian Sea.

Off the coasts of Goa, Karnataka and north Kerala, squally wind speeds reaching 40-50kmph are likely to gust to 60kmph.
"The sea condition is likely to be high over the east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea, and it is likely to become high to very high from Wednesday night over the same area," the IMD said.

Sea conditions are therefore expected to be rough along the Goa coast from Thursday to Saturday.
"Those out at sea are advised to return to the coast by afternoon," the IMD stated.
Any rainfall that may occur during this time, however, figures in the pre-monsoon rainfall bracket.

The likely onset of monsoon over Goa was June 4 with a model error of ± 4 days. However, there now appears to be a slight delay in the same. Goa normally receives its monsoon 4-5 days after its onset in Kerala.
