Lawyer who filed FIR against service centre gets car back
He sent his driver to pick up the car but the service centre didn’t accept the payment in Rs 2,000 notes.
VADODARA: A few days ago, his car was detained by a service centre that refused to accept payment in Rs 2,000 currency notes. But now, advocate Jaydeep Verma from Vadodara, has got his car back. Kiran Motors didn't just admit its mistake but also waived off the servicing charges.
TOI had reported the incident on May 30 after Verma filed a complaint against Kiran Motors at the city police commissioner's office. "The management approached me and admitted to its mistake. They returned the car and when I offered to pay them in Rs 2,000 currency notes, they said that they have waived off the bill. I accepted their apology and the matter has been settled amicably," Verma told TOI.
"I have also withdrawn my complaint," he added. Verma had given his car for servicing at the service centre of Kiran Motors on May 26. He sent his driver to pick up the car but the service centre didn't accept the payment in Rs 2,000 notes.
Verma argued that Rs 2,000 notes were still legal tender and the government hadn't demonetised them. He told the service centre that they have to accept the legal tender but they refused and didn't release his car. "I don't use payment wallets or UPI so I decided to pay them in cash as it was easier," Verma said.
