The Ludhiana market is experiencing a surge in demand for polyester-cotton yarn, resulting in a price increase of ₹5-8 per kg. This increase has been accepted by buyers, who are keen to secure new deals. High cotton prices have further motivated buyers to accommodate the higher yarn prices. However, the price of polyester spun yarn remains steady. As a trader from Ludhiana informed Fibre2Fashion, the market conditions are favourable for PC yarn, with ICE cotton contributing to bullish sentiments. Despite this, there's been little movement in the price of poly spun yarn.
According to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro, the price of 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) gained to ₹207-218 per kg (including GST) in Ludhiana. Meanwhile, 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) has firmed up at ₹195-205 per kg, while 30 count poly spun steadied at ₹149-159 per kg (including GST) in the northern Indian market. Recycled polyester fibre, sourced from PET bottles, is priced at ₹68-70 per kg.
In Surat, poly spun yarn prices remained largely unchanged. Some sellers were asking for slightly higher prices of about ₹1-2 per kg. A 30 count poly spun yarn sold for ₹135-136 per kg (excluding GST) and a 40 count poly spun yarn sold for ₹151-152 per kg. In Mumbai, the price of 30 count local viscose yarn also remained steady at ₹185-195 per kg (excluding GST).
Previously, RIL set the price of PTA at ₹81.00 per kg (a decrease of ₹1.00), MEG at ₹51.60 per kg (a decrease of ₹0.40), and MELT at ₹87.20 per kg (a decrease of ₹1.00). These polyester raw material prices came into effect last Saturday. Earlier this fortnight, the company also reduced the price of Polyester staple fibre (PSF) by ₹2 to ₹102 per kg.
Cotton in north India continues to show a firm trend due to high demand and positive indications from the downstream industry. Prices have increased by ₹50-75 per maund of 37.2 kg in the northern Indian markets. Trade sources suggest that ginners have raised prices following an increase in ICE cotton and better buying in cotton yarn. Last week, cotton arrival in north India was around 2,500 bales of 170 kg each. Cotton prices were quoted at ₹5,875-5,975 per maund in Punjab, ₹5,825-5,925 per maund in Haryana, and ₹6,175-6,275 per maund in upper Rajasthan, and ₹56,500-58,000 per candy of 356 kg in lower Rajasthan.
