New Caterham Project V previews electric sports car
Caterham has teased it’s new Project V concept for the first time

Caterham is working on a new two-seat electric sports car and we now have our first official look at it. Currently called ‘Project V’, this concept will pave the way for an entirely new model from the British brand.
It may only be a shadowy side profile teaser shot, but the image indicates the Project V will be a two-door coupe – a radical departure from Caterham’s traditional open-top Seven. We can also make out the Project V’s swooping roofline and pronounced wheelarches, which do have some old-school proportions to them as they resemble a Ferrari Dino 206’s.
With Caterham celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, we expect the full reveal of the Project V to take place in the coming weeks. As part of the launch of the all-electric EV Seven in May, Caterham CEO Bob Laishley said: “Any future EV model we produce must be true to the DNA of a Caterham: lightweight, fun-to-drive and driver focused.
Rivals for Caterham’s new creation will be few and far between. The future of Alpine’s all-electric sports car (previewed by the E-ternite concept) was placed in doubt after it announced it wouldn’t be working with Lotus after all and we’re still a few years off seeing the Porsche Cayman and Boxster EV hit showrooms.
If Caterham’s EV Seven is anything to go by, the Project V will be one of the lightest electric sports cars on sale. However, we’re not sure if it’ll receive the EV Seven’s 240bhp electric motor or 40kWh usable battery which were sourced from the team at Swindon Powertrain Ltd.
