Cyclone in Aarabian Sea Live Updates: As Cyclone Biparjoy, which is developing into a “very severe cyclone” in the Arabian Sea, is moving northwards, the India meteorological department (IMD) bulletin states that Gujarat may experience its effects from Friday onwards, in the form of strong winds and thunderstorms.According to the IMD’s evening bulletin, Biparjoy, located about 860km southwest of Goa, is likely to intensify as it moves northwards. The cyclone is not likely to make landfall in India and is likely to move towards the Arabian Peninsula, according to the bulletin.The states on the western coast of India, however, will feel its impact in the form of rain and strong winds along with rough seas. Fishermen from the Gujarat coast have been warned not to venture out to the sea for the next few days.The IMD forecast on Friday says surface winds of 30-40 kmph are likely in all districts of Gujarat on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Conditions are becoming favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala (MOK) during the next 48 hours, said IMD. It added that according to the latest meteorological features associated with monsoon onset over Kerala, there is a persistence of westerly winds over the south Arabian Sea and an increase of cloudiness over areas covering the southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep and Kerala coasts.With an increase in the depth of westerly winds up to middle tropospheric levels, the conditions are also favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of the south Arabian Sea and the entire Lakshadweep area and more parts of the Bay of Bengal.

Biparjoy, the cyclone brewing over the Arabian Sea, is moving northnorthwestward and could drive moisture away from India and affect onset and progression of monsoon, says climate expert Roxy Mathew Koll. Mumbai’s normal monsoon onset date is June 11. But with onset not having happened over Kerala yet, the city’s wait could get longer. IMD, in an alert late on Tuesday evening, said, “Deep depression intensified into cyclonic storm Biparjoy over east-central Arabian Sea at 1730 hours IST. To move nearly northwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. ” The Met department, in its fiveday forecast, said light to moderate rain was “very likely” from June 7-10 in parts of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar.
