Pune Airport witnessed scenes of anxiety and chaos as over a hundred people were left stranded and frustrated when the Air Asia flight (I5 611) from Pune Airport to Bangalore faced a delay of more than ten hours. Passengers complained about the lack of information and assistance from the airline, exacerbating their plight. The flight, originally scheduled for 5:25 am departure, did not take off until late afternoon. To accommodate the stranded passengers, the airline had to arrange an alternative aircraft that was originally slated for a Jaipur to Bangalore route.

The last-minute confusion resulted in numerous travelers missing important meetings, as the airline repeatedly rescheduled the flight without clear communication. In response to the escalating situation, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) had to intervene, physically restraining some agitated passengers, as seen in videos shared on social media.

An AIX Connect spokesperson issued a statement, acknowledging the delay and attributing it to a technical issue. They assured that passengers were being taken care of, offering the option of a full refund and free rescheduling. The spokesperson emphasized the airline’s commitment to guest safety and security as their top priority.

While CISF officials confirmed their involvement in managing the chaotic scene caused by the delayed Bangalore flight, Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke refrained from commenting on the situation.

Passengers grew increasingly frustrated during the prolonged wait, with the airline’s senior officials failing to engage with them. Refreshments were only provided after confrontations between customers and airline employees at the airport.

Expressing their dissatisfaction, several passengers took to Twitter, highlighting the delay and mismanagement.

Mayur Kasale tweeted, “All Indian flights of AirAsia @AirIndiaX are getting delayed. Some are also delayed by 4 hours. @airindia @AirIndiaX and @TataCompanies should at least provide the passengers with necessary refreshments at the airport. Why should the passengers suffer because of the agency’s mismanagement?”

One Gaurav Gangrade tweeted, “My wife was a passenger of the Jaipur flight, which is delayed because of this entire circus. People with genuine concerns are not getting any replies from the @airasia authorities. @MoCA_GoI why so many frequent delays at Pune airport?”

Another passenger Anish Chandran complained that passengers were not given an option reschedule despite flights were available. “@airasia frustrated and hassled by delay of my flight by more than 4 hours and is now at 12:30 am which is an odd time for me to travel. I was not even given an option to reschedule it even though flights were available. I need to be in Bengaluru tonight!”
