Gumla: The Gumla Nagar Parishad organised a ‘Kabaad Mahotsav’ (scrap festival) from May 29 to June 5 to generate awareness among the people on the concept of 3Rs — Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Items made of waste were displayed during the event that was organised for the first time in the state, officials claimed.
Gumla deputy commissioner (DC) Sushant Gaurav appealed to the residents to stop misusing things of day-to-day life and explore ways to reuse them.

Sanjay Kumar said a two days’ training-cum-orientation workshop was held during the eight-day programme, which was the first in the state. “Paryavaran Vatika that was inaugurated at Patel Chowk on Monday by DC Gaurav will be developed in to the state’s first recycling park,” he added.
Shubhendu Biswas, popularly known as the ‘Junkman of Jamshedpur’ imparted lessons to scrap traders and youths on ways to convert waste into sculptures, showpieces, and other items and create a niche market.

Manoj Jaiswal said, “We should promote the concept of 3Rs in our day-to-day life to reduce the burden on resources and save environment.”
Gumla principal district and session judge Sanjay Kumar Chandhariyavi said, “Kabaad Mahotsav is a wonderful initiative to create a mass movement by encouraging people to efficiently manage waste.”
