Gurgaon: Two motorcycles and a Maruti Baleno caught fire after a short circuit triggered fire on an electricity pole at Sector 40 housing board colony on Tuesday morning.
Eyewitnesses said around 5.20am sparks from an electricity pole fell on to a Maruti Baleno parked near it, leading to the blaze. Then, two motorcycles that had been parked along the car caught on fire as well.
Fire officials were alerted about the situation. They reached the spot and doused the flames. However, most parts of the car and both motorcycles got charred by the time the fire was fully doused.
“No one suffered serious injuries in the incident and it took about half an hour to douse the flames,” a fire official said.
Similarly, another such incident was reported in the city last month, on May 23, when three cars were left gutted following a short-circuit in Sector 15 part 2.
An eyewitness of the May 23 incident said had said a ball of fire from a transformer fell on a parked
Tata Safari, causing the car to catch on fire. The car then rolled towards the street, where it rammed two other parked vehicles — a Hyundai i20 and a Honda City.
The collision had caused the two other cars to catch fire as well. By the time the fire officials had doused the fire, the three vehicles were gutted.
