CHENNAI: With India emerging as a top electronics manufacturing destination catering to both domestic and export markets, IIT-Madras has launched a BS in electronics system programme to power India and
Tamil Nadu’s growth in the electronics manufacturing sector.
The course is a result of industry demand for specific skill sets and talent requirements in the electronics hardware and software systems, and the curriculum is designed in consultation with the industry, Andrew Thangaraj, associate chair, Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), IIT-Madras, said.
The course will be offered in online mode and is open to all students, who have completed Class 12 with physics and maths, irrespective of age, role or geographical location. Content, tutorials, doubt-clearing sessions and assignments will be online, while quizzes, exams and labs will be conducted in-person at the IIT Madras campus.
"By acquiring the fundamentals and skills, graduates of this BS (electronic systems) programme will be able to serve in multiple industries such as automotive, consumer electronics, mobile, medical electronics and defence industry as an electronic or embedded system design and development engineer," Thangaraj said. The institute would also support students in getting internship and placement opportunities, he added.
The programme also features multiple exits, and the students can get a foundational level certificate, diploma or the BS degree.
The application process closes on June 25.
