Dumka: Two persons, including a six-year-old boy, died on the spot and a woman was critically injured when the autorickshaw they were travelling in was hit from behind by a speeding Hyva truck near the Barmasiya village under the Shikaripara police station of Dumka district on Tuesday.
The deceased boy has been identified as Vimal Kumar of Shaharjori village under the Shikaripara police station. The other victim is a woman of around 35 years and is yet to be identified.
The bodies have been sent to the Phulo Jhano Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. The injured woman, Sarita Murmu (30), is the mother of the deceased boy. She is being treated at the nearby Mohulpahadi-based Christian hospital.
Police said the Hyva truck was on its way to Dumka and hit a car coming from the opposite side and later rammed the autorickshaw.
Speaking to the TOI, the officer-in-charge of the Shikaripara police station, Umesh Ram, said all the four occupants of the car were safe and sustained only minor injuries.
Ram further said the driver and the cleaner of the truck managed to flee from the spot leaving the vehicle, which was empty, and was seized.
