BAGAHA/PATNA: A speeding SUV hit and seriously injured seven girl students under Lauriya police station area in West Champaran district Tuesday morning.
The girls, all students of Class 10, were on the way to the coaching institute when the vehicle rammed them near a motorcycle showroom on the Lauriya-Bettiah main road. The driver has been arrested.
The CCTV footage of the area shows the girls going by bicycles when the SUV hit them from behind. Some of the girls were dragged on the bonnet of the vehicle for 20 feet. Even one Brijesh Patel (40) of Lauria Nauka Tola walking on the road was also hit and injured by the SUV.

Those injured have been identified as Pooja Kumari, daughter of Harendra Yadav of Baswariya Tola, Mamta Kumari, daughter of Sanjay Mahato, Anjali Kumari, daughter of Hiralal Sharma, Chhote Lal Mahto's daughter Aahina Kumari, Shatrughan Prasad's daughter Sandhya Kumari, Dhruv Prasad's daughter Chhoti Kumari, Upendra Prasad's daughter Nirmala Kumari.
“The SUV has been seized and the driver, Junaid Miyan (55) of Chautarawa village, has been arrested for rash and negligent driving. The driver was returning from Sugauli in East Champaran. He will be sent to jail after registering an FIR,” SHO Kailash Prasad said.
The SHO said the girls were around 15 years old and had been admitted to Lauriya PHC for treatment. Seeing their serious condition, the doctors referred six of the girls to GMCH, Bettiah. The SUV was returning from a marriage function as a pamphlet with the names of the bride and groom was pasted on its front glass. There was no one else in the SUV except the driver.
