PremiumBiparjoy Cyclone News Live: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ located over the east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea is likely to shift northwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next few hours.
Harsh weather and sea conditions due to the storm can take the wind speed to 135-145 kmph gusting to 160 kmph in the next three-four days. The weather office has issued a warning for fishermen not to venture into the sea.
It has also issued a wind warning for the next five days for states southwestern states.

Cyclone Biparjoy is the first tropical cyclone of southwest monsoon season emerged in the Arabian Sea. Name of the cyclone was suggested by Bangladesh.
IMD has issued heavy rainfall alert in different states including Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, etc. Rainfall alert was also issued for north eastern states for next few days. (Read full report here)

Due to the advancing Biparjoy cyclone, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfal in Mumbai till 12 June.
The Met office said it is likely to move nearly northwards and intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm. It would then move north-northwestwards during the subsequent three days.
“Severe Cyclonic storm Biparjoy over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea at 0830 IST of 07th June, near lat 12.7N and lon 66.2E, about 880km WSW of Goa. Likely to move nearly northwards and intensify into VSCS during next 12 hrs," the weather office tweeted.

For the Indian Ocean region, a formula for naming cyclones was agreed upon in 2004. Eight countries in the region – Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Thailand – all contributed a set of names, which are assigned sequentially whenever a cyclonic storm develops.
Cyclone Biparjoy, which is holding up the start of monsoon rains in India, is set to intensify into a very severe storm in the Arabian Sea as it moves near the country’s west coast where major ports and refineries sit.
The cyclone is now a severe storm and will continue to intensify and move northward over the next 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department said in an update. The agency has signaled that the system would critically influence the arrival of monsoon rains over Kerala by driving away clouds and moisture.
The name of the cyclone is Biparjoy given by Bangladesh.
According to the India Meteorological Department(IMD),a cyclonic circulation formed over the Southeast Arabian Sea on 5 June 2023. under its influence, a low-pressure area is very likely to form over the same region during next 24 hours.

IMD has issued a warning for fishermen to not to venture into the sea till June 10. Those who are out on sea, are advised to return to the coast.Here are the directions issued:
-Fishermen should not venture into the central and adjoining areas of the south Arabian Sea from 7th-9 th June.
-Central and adjoining areas of north & south Arabian Sea on 10th June.
Wind speed can increase to become 135-145 kmph gusting to 160 kmph from the evening. Adjoining areas of the South Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Goa- Maharashtra coasts to experience harsh weather and rough sea conditions.
“Cyclonic storm “Biparjoy" over eastcentral and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea at 0230 IST of 07 June near lat 12.5°N and lon 66.0°E, about 900km WSW of Goa. Likely to move nearly northwards and intensify into SCS during next 06 hour," IMD tweeted.
Wind speed can reach 115-125 kmph gusting to 140 kmph from the evening. Areas located in Karnataka, Goa-Maharashtra coasts to experience strong winds.
Gale wind can reach a speed of 80-90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph is likely to prevail over east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of west-central & southeast Arabian Sea. It can grow strong to become 95-105 kmph gusting to 115 kmph from the evening of 7th June over the same area. Adjoining areas of the westcentral and south Arabian Sea and along and off north Kerala-Karnataka-Goa coasts will also experience strong wind and rough sea conditions.
In the wake of the advancing cyclone, IMD has issued a wind warning for the next five days for states southwestern states.
A depression over the southeast Arabian Sea, south of Porbandar in Gujarat, is likely to move northwestward and intensify into a cyclonic storm, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday.
