CHENNAI: A French national lodged a police complaint on Monday against Tamil movie director Gopi Nainar and S B Vijaya Amirtharaj of Ox Production alleging that the duo duped her of ₹30 lakh in the name of producing a movie.
The complainant Shyamala Yogaraja, 56, alleged that she came in contact with the two accused through some acquaintances after coming to know that they were looking for potential investors for a movie. She had met the duo at their office in an apartment in T Nagar on September 23, 2018 where she paid them ₹5 lakh and later transferred ₹25 lakh in several instalments through money transfer channels to the two accused.
Police said that the complainant alleged that Vijay Amirtharaj had also acknowledged receipt of the amount in subsequent correspondence. The woman claimed that she was introduced to some silver screen celebrities and actors adding that she had photographs of the meetings.
However, after receiving the amount the accused started to dodge her and later blocked her number. They also blocked her on several social media platforms. Seeing no other option, she lodged a police complaint. Both Gopi Nainar and Vijay Amirtharaj were not reachable for their comments.
