Food safety authority bans sale of 14 medical drugs

PANAJI: The directorate of food and drugs (FDA) has prohibited the manufacture, sale, and distribution of 14 drug Fixed Dose Combination (FDC) on the recommendation of the Expert Committee and Drugs Technical Advisory Board.
Drug retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, government and private hospitals, medical practitioners and nursing homes have been asked to take note of the ban. Doctors have been directed not to prescribe the banned drug.

If any retailer, wholesaler, hospital, or dispensary possess stocks of the banned drug, they are to return it to their supplier and inform FDA about it. The violation of the directive, a FDA official said, will attract penal action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. tnn
