Rajkot: A Jamnagar-based cardiologist, Dr Gaurav Gandhi (41), died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning. He was working in the medicine department of G G Hospital in Jamnagar on contractual basis.
Dr Gandhi used to practice regularly at a private hospital.
Dr. Nandini Desai, dean of M P Shah Medical College in Jamnagar, told TOI, “Gandhi complained of chest pain at 4 am on Tuesday. He was taken to the private hospital where he treats his heart patients. There a cardiogram was done and Gandhi was treated for acidity. He felt better and went back home.”
According to Gandhi’s family, two hours after reaching his house, Gandhi collapsed near bathroom and was shifted to the emergency ward of G G Hospital. “Gandhi died within 45 minutes of reaching the hospital. A postmortem was done and its report is awaited. But primary observations indicate that Gandhi suffered a cardiac arrest,” said Dr Desai.
Gandhi is survived by his wife Devanshi who is a dentist, their two children, and his parents. He was honoured for his service and research in the medical field on Republic Day.
According to his colleague, Gandhi seemed very normal till Monday evening when he was treating his patients.
Gandhi was healthy and his sudden death has shocked the medical fraternity.
Gujarat, especially Saurashtra has witnessed a spate deaths due to sudden heart attacks over the last few months.
