ADVERTISEMENTS

In an interesting turn of events, Apple no longer requires a $99 yearly subscription to test out its latest developer betas meaning anyone can sign up and download the latest version of Apple software completely free of charge. This includes the developer betas for iOS 17, iPadOS 17 as well as macOS Sonoma and watchOS 10.

Those of you who want to test out the new software(s) can simply sign up for the Apple Developer Program with your Apple ID. After that users be able to enroll and download developer betas without waiting for the public beta launches.

The new Developer free tier also includes access to Xcode developer tools, on-device testing and beta releases as well as access to the Apple Developer Forums and Feedback Assistant for bug reporting. Paid developer accounts get a range of other perks and support from Apple as well as app distribution on the App Store.

That is true To add to it people don’t read, the image in the article pretty much says what free account can so and what paid does, for dev betas both are fine now.

$99 per year is too much. Would have been one time pay for a developer.

To download dev betas that is not possible, because in the past not paying meant no access to them. Anyhow with this step I see Apple get rid of public betas, they don’t make much sense now that dev betas are available for everyone.
