Man goes to girlfriend’s house to celebrate her birthday, killed
Coimbatore: A 21-year-old man died after he was assaulted by his girlfriend’s uncle at her house at Mayiladumparai near Chettipalayam in the city on Monday. The man, who was in an inebriated condition, went there around 12.15am to celebrate her birthday.
Police said V Prasanth, of Gandhi Nagar at Sundarapuram, was a loadman. He was in love with an 18-year-old girl for three years. Their parents learned about their relationship and decided to marry them off after a year.
Police said the girl used to speak with Prasanth daily using her father’s phone. “For the past two days, her father had stopped her from speaking with him. On Sunday night, Prasanth decided to celebrate her birthday, brought a cake and went to her house with three of his friends.
The four men scaled the compound wall of the house and woke up the family members to celebrate the birthday. Irked over this, M Vignesh, 29, a call taxi driver, picked up a quarrel with him. Vignesh, in a fit of rage, picked up a sickle and attacked Prasanth and his friends. Vignesh is a cousin brother to girl’s mother. He has been living with the family for more than 10 years,” a police officer said.
“Prasanth suffered injuries on his chest and left shoulder. Both the girl’s family members and Prasanth’s friends thought the injuries were not serious. Prasanth too did not display any discomfort.
While on their way to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, Prasanth’s two-wheeler ran out of petrol at Sundarapuram. His friends called the 108 ambulance service. By the time they reached the hospital, Prasanth had died,” the officer added.
The Chettipalayam police registered a case against Vignesh under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him on Monday.
