Kanpur: Mayor Pramila Pandey on Monday on the occasion of World Environment Day planted saplings at several places of the city. In the morning, she visited Durga Gayatri park Daboli and planted saplings. Thereafter, she felicitated children who had won a competition based in environment-related topics. Pandey said if every person took a pledge to plant a sapling the problem of environmental
pollution could be curbed to a great extent. She said our life was safe only if trees were safe and if we increase number of trees we would get more clean air as trees reduce air pollution.
Thereafter, she went to Richa Singh park and planted saplings along with corporators. There, she stated that it was more important to take care of planted trees than planting trees and that all of us must pledge to care for the saplings planted to help them grow. Several officials of Kanpur Municipal Corporation were present on the occasion.
Yatri Jan Kalyan Samiti planted saplings at Karpatri Nagar Park, Juhi. Jitendra Kumar Pandey, president of the samiti, said every persons should plant at least one sapling and nurture it so that environmental pollution could be reduced. In the evening, the samiti distributed cloth bags in front of Musical fountain at Kidwai Nagar and made an appeal to avoid plastic and use cloth bags to prevent pollution. Members of the samiti were present on the occasion and they distributed the bags to passersby.
