PUDUCHERRY: Police booked independent MLA G Nehru alias Kuppusamy and his 15 supporters on charges of forming unlawful assembly and obstructing police personnel from discharging their duty and disrupting the proceedings at a government function attended by Puducherry chief minister N Rangasamy, speaker of the legislative assembly R Selvam and chief secretary Rajeev Verma.
Police booked the MLA and his supporters under sections 143 (punishment for forming an unlawful assembly), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code. The action came after Odiansalai police sub- inspector A Zaguir Qussene lodged a complaint. Meanwhile, the DGP has ordered a disciplinary proceeding against Odiansalai police inspector A Kannan and placed him under suspension with immediate effect.
On Monday, Nehru scaled an iron gate and barged into the function hall disrupting the function to celebrate the World Environment Day and questioned the territorial officials, particularly the chief secretary, for failing to execute Smart City projects in a transparent and efficient manner.
