Panic after smoke inside general compartment of Sealdah Express near Kaushambi
The train was allowed to go after thorough checking by railway staff and police.
PRAYAGRAJ: Panic gripped Bharwari railway station and adjoining areas on Tuesday afternoon in Kaushambi district for more than half an hour after passengers in the general compartment of 12987 Sealdah-Ajmer Express stopped the train by pulling the emergency chain on seeing smoke inside the compartment.
The train for its destination after a gap of 38 minutes after railway staff fixed the issue.
Chief public relations officer (CPRO) NCR,, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, said, "The passengers of 12987 Sealdah-Ajmer Superfast Express complained about smoke in the general compartment of the train. The train was stopped at Bharwari railway station at 13.22pm and railway staff attended the complaint.”
He added that the train left for its destination at 2pm.
Upadhyay said that the train was thoroughly checked by the railway staff at Bharwari railway station and it was scheduled for rechecking at the Kanpur Central railway station.
Passengers told reporters that some of them noticed smoke inside the general compartment and pulled the emergency chain. Arjun, a passenger travelling in the compartment, said: “When we spotted smoke emitting from the roof of the compartment, we pulled the chain. Once the train stopped, we came out of the compartment.”
Railway authorities at the Bharwari railway station claimed that the train left for its destination after checking and necessary work. The railway staff was also assisted by the GRP personnel.
