Apple CEO Tim Cook on Monday unveiled the tech company's most-awaited augmented-reality headset called the Apple Vision Pro at its annual software developer conference WWDC 2023. With Vision Pro, Apple has made its first big move since launching the Apple Watch nine years ago.

"It's the first Apple product you look through, not at," Cook said during the keynote address at the WWDC 2023 while announcing the Vision Pro, which starts at $3,499 (Rs 2,88,742 approximately). The new headgear by Apple will lock horns with Meta's Quest Pro series.

The Vision Pro, which Cook describes as "spatial computing", comes with a three-dimensional camera and microphone system that easily captures videos and pictures that users can later view in 3D.

The Vision Pro, which has been years in the making, can go up to two hours of use with an external battery, which Apple said would reduce the weight on the user's head.

However, the new headgear by Apple needs to be plugged into the wall or battery pack as it has no standalone use. This may comes as a drawback for Apple’s first gamble in a long time as rival Meta’s headset goes on for two hours without an external battery pack as it has a battery attached directly to the Quest Pro.

How It Looks On The Outside:

Talking about the look of Apple’s Vision Pro, the headset features an exterior display that shows off the user's eyes to those on the outside world. However, the exterior display goes dark when the user is fully immersed in a virtual world.

"You're never isolated from people around you," Apple said. "You can see them, and they can see you."

When someone approaches a user that’s in full virtual mode, the headset shows both the user and the person on the outside each other.

For work uses, Apple showed how the headset can be used with a trackpad and keyboard to work like a traditional computer with multiple displays.

    What's On The Inside:

The Vision Pro, which is powered by M2, also comes with a new chip called R1 which has been designed to process information from its sensors in less time than the “blink of an eye”. The Apple headset works on its own operating system, VisionOS and also comes with its own dedicated App Store.

Apart from TV content and Arcade, Walt Disney's Disney+ streaming service will also be available on day one of the Vision Pro, Apple announced.

Disney has partnered with Apple for years.
