Amid the ongoing clashes between the military forces and insurgents, Manipur government announced to extend its internet ban till June 10. The suspension of internet services has been extended till 3 pm of June 10, said the state Commissioner, H Gyan Prakash, in an official order on Tuesday.

Notably, there have been constant clashes between the forces and insurgent groups in the domination operations ongoing in different regions of the state.

The suspension of mobile data services, including broadband, has been extended till 3 pm of June 10, an order issued by Commissioner (Home) H Gyan Prakash said. The ban was imposed in the state on May 3, due to the eruption of violent clashes in the state.

Meanwhile, the ongoing violent clashes between the security forces and insurgents have costed the lives of two Border Security Forces soldiers on Tuesday. Another two Assam Rifles personnel were also injured in the encounter with suspected Kuki insurgents in Manipur's Serou area early Tuesday.

The exchange of fire between the two sides broke in a school in Sugni in Kakching district. The deployed BSF troops at the Serou Practical High School came under an unprecedented heavy firing by the suspected Kuki miscreants, said a BSF official. In the clash, constable Ranjit Yadav sustained a bullet injury, and was later declared dead.

The ethnic clashes in Manipur have claimed more than 90 lives and left 310 people injured. The clashes between different communities broke out a month ago. Currently, a total of 272 relief camps have sheltered around 37,450 people in different parts of Manipur.

Clashes first erupted in Manipur on May 3, after the organisation of a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ in the hill districts. The march was carried out to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Meiteis consist of about 53 per cent of Manipur's population and most of them live in the Imphal valley. Tribal people of Nagas and Kukis make up another 40 per cent of the population and reside in the hill districts. Around 10,000 army and Assam rifles personnel were deployed in the state to control the situation that went out of government's hands in last one month.
