Rape survivor’s dad kills self in Jalaun

Kanpur: Peeved over alleged police inaction, father of a teenage rape survivor killed himself by hanging in a village in Ait police station area of Jalaun district on Monday morning. Jalaun SP Iraj Raja with his team reached the spot and supervised the investigation.
It is alleged that the survivor’s father, who used to earn his livelihood by selling ‘paani-puri’ in Punjab, was forced by police to strike a compromise with the accused.
The family members said that the accused, identified as Dolu alias Manvendra, a resident of the same village, had invited the girl to a birthday party and raped her on March 28. The girl’s father had filed a complaint on May 30, but instead of taking action, cops pressured him to withdraw the case.
This is whne the girl’s father reached out to the SP in hope of justice. After the SP’s order, an FIR was filed after five days on June 4.
It is alleged that even after filing the report, police was pressuring him to compromise with the accused. Upset with the police’s alleged harassment, the man ended his life on Monday.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed as the man’s family members refused to hand over his body to the police for autopsy. However, later additional SP Aseem Chaudhary managed to convince them.
ASP said that a case has been registered against the three accused, including the main accused, Dolu.
“The main accused Dolu alias Manvendra is already lodged in jail in connection with another criminal case, while a husband-wife duo who had helped him in committing the crime, have also been arrested. Police are now in the process of procuring remand of the main accused lodged in the jail. Action will also be taken against the policemen who are responsible for the suicide of the girl’s father,” ASP said, adding that “circle officer Konch, is conducting an investigation in this regard and we will get the report in 24 hours. Action will be taken against those guilty.”
