‘Notify ST seat reservation before LS polls’

Margao: With the chief minister clearing the proposal for political reservations for Scheduled Tribes (STs), the Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa organisation has urged him to notify it before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The directorate of tribal welfare recently submitted a proposal to the ministry of law and justice to constitute a delimitation commission for reservation of seats for STs in the Goa assembly. It was proposed to reserve four constituencies as per the ST population.
The organisation stated that it was Kirit Solanki, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, who directed the state authorities to submit a proposal to the Centre for reservation of seats for STs in the Goa Assembly, setting the ball rolling. He also tabled a report in this regard in the Lok Sabha on February 12.
Stating that the ball was now in the Centre’s court, the organisation requested theCM to ensure that the notification on assembly seat reservation is issued before the 2024 parliamentary elections.
