Relief from traffic as one side of Dhandari flyover reopens
Ludhiana: One side of the Dhandari flyover, which had been closed for repairs since March-end, has been opened for traffic, much to the relief of industrialists, especially those who have factories in focal points. The side which has been opened is now being used by light vehicles. Work on the other side of the flyover is also nearing completion and the stretch is likely to be opened soon. Businessmen have requested authorities to complete work at the earliest.
Gurpreet Singh, member of the national board for MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) said, “Finally, after a wait of two months, one side of Dhandari Flyover has been opened for traffic, which has given us huge relief. Due to closure of both sides earlier, we had to take a very long route to reach our factories. The journey takes just five minutes via the flyover. With one side open, at least light vehicles are now easily able to enter and exit focal points through this flyover, which was totally closed.”
Commuters here will have to wait another week for the other side of the flyover to open. “Concrete work on the other side of the flyover is in its final stage. It is very likely that it will be completed this week only and we will be able to open this side for traffic in seven to 10 days,” said a senior official. Industrialists also want roads on both sides of the flyover.
