Cylinder blast sparks fire; teenager among 3 injured, in hospital
Gurgaon: A gas cylinder exploded in a house in Sector 5 on Monday morning, severely injuring a couple and their 13-year-old son.
The injured have been identified as Pappu Kumar (48), a daily wage labourer, his wife Nayan Devi (45) and son Rajbir. According to fire deparment officials, Devi had switched on the gas and started cooking when the LPG cylinder suddenly caught fire and exploded. “We received a call at Bhim Nagar fire station at 5.37am and one fire engine was sent to the spot and doused the flames within an hour. By the time, police too reached the spot and with their help, we rushed the injured to hospital,” said the official.
Later in the evening, the family was referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.
Similarly, nearly 15–20 shanties were gutted at a slum near the Sector 29 water tank around 10.30am on Monday. No injuries were reported.
“By the time the fire was controlled, around 15 shanties were gutted. Sector 29 police also reached the spot. Prima facie, the fire started from a gas cylinder kept in the shanties. Plastic materials aggravated the flames,” said a fire officer.
Since people rushed out of their homes upon learning about the fire, no one was injured. In the evening, another gas cylinder caught fire and exploded at a dhaba in Sector 39. No injury was reported.
