An earthquake of magnitude 3.9 hits Bay of Bengal during early morning on Monday, according to National Center for Seismology. Its epicentre lied beneath the Bay of Bengal near Myanmar.

The quake was centred at a latitude of 15.32 and a longitude of 92.84. Its depth was 10 kilometre, and was located at Bay of Bengal, India.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:3.9, Occurred on 05-06-2023, 07:40:23 IST, Lat: 15.32 & Long: 92.84, Depth: 10 Km, Location:Bay of Bengal, India," tweeted NCS.

Till now, no casualty has been reported. Notably, the region has been struck by at least three earthquakes in last 7 months. Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 4.5 on Richter scale shook the region on January 1, 2023. The earthquake originated at a depth of 36 kilometre. It was felt at 10:57 am on the occasion of New Year. At the same day, another earthquake of magnitude 3.8 on Richter scale jolted Northwest of Haryana's Jhajjar at 1:19 am.

In the beginning of December, last year, an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 on the richter scale struch the Bay of Bengal on 5 December. The quake occurred at around 8:32 am in the Bay of Bengal at a depth off 10 km.

This time, the earthquake's location was close to Odisha, as it was located at a distance of 421 km and 434 km from Puri (east) and Bhubaneswar (east-south-east). At that time, the tremor was felt in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh.
