SURAT: Gold ornaments and cash worth over Rs 5 lakh were stolen in two different incidents in Surat. Police complaints were filed on Saturday.
In the first incident, eunuch Raju alias Sapna Yadav has filed a complaint at Udhna police station that someone stole gold and cash worth Rs 1.89 from his home in Kailashnagar. When the crime took place, the eunuch was away.
The complaint says that on May 9 Sapna was out for begging in Udhana-Danapur train and around 10am she received a call from her relative Taniya, informing him that someone had broken into his home. Sapna rushed back home to find that gold and cash were missing from the cupboard that been broken.
She noticed that a gold bracelet, two pairs of earnings, a gold chain and pendant and a mangal sutra worth Rs 1.80 lakh and cash worth Rs 9,000 were missing. She filed the police complaint on Saturday after collecting proof for the stolen valuables.
In the second incident, Rina Jadav, who works as a receptionist at a hospital, has filed a complaint that someone stole gold worth Rs 3.23 lakh from her home in Bhatar. According to her complaint filed at Khatodara police station on Saturday, Rina had kept the gold ornaments — a necklace, a mangal sutra, a chain, a pendant and four nose rings — in her cupboard on May 28.
On June 3, she wanted to wear these ornaments as she wanted to perform Vat Savitri puja. But when she checked the cupboard, she found that the ornaments were missing. Her family checked the CCTV footage at their neighbour’s house and found that a person wearing an orange T-shirt and blue track pants had entered their home at 11.28am on June 1. The family found that the man had entered their home through the window which had no grill. Police investigation was on.
