AHMEDABAD: The newly renovated Lal Darwaja Heritage Terminus of AMTS at the cost of Rs 8.80 crore spread over an area of 11,583 sqm was inaugurated by chief minister Bhupendra Patel.
Patel said that Red bus is the identity of Ahmedabad, he further said that same way as the blood is vital for our body same is the importance of this red AMTS bus for urban people.
This bus terminus with daily traffic of around one and a half lakh travelers has been renovated on the heritage theme the heritage city of Ahmedabad. Patel said that there was a time when precarious and wretched condition was the hallmark of the state's bus service but since 2001 development has taken place with time in this sector too.
He said that Modern transport facilities including Red Bus, Metro, BRTS, Electric Bus are the gift to the citizens of Ahmedabad. Referring to these facilities, the chief minister said, at present, 200 electric, 905 CNG and 130 diesel buses of AMTS are operating in the city of Ahmedabad in total 1235 buses serving lakhs of citizens of Ahmedabad.
Lal Darwaja Heritage Terminus of AMTS has been renovated at a cost of Rs 8.80 crore at Lal Darwaza which is the heart of Ahmedabad. The entire premises is spread over an area of 11,583 sqm. The heritage building in this terminus has been prepared in an area of 2,588 sqm equipped with facilities like office staff building, water system for tourists, cabin for cash collection, meeting hall, waiting area for tourists, public information system for the convenience of tourists, cameras, command and control room and to inform tourists about the time of buses starting and passing through Lal Darwaza. LED screen is also erected.
The chief minister said that, a provision of Rs 24 crore has been made by state government in this year's historic budget for 50 electric buses for eco-friendly transport. He said that an automatic plastic bottle crushing machine has also been launched which shows the society's partnership with the government to combat plastic pollution.
It is worth mentioning that this machine is going to be placed at Kankaria and Atal Bridge. This will lead to recycling of plastic bottles and also cleanliness. Apart from this, the history of Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service from 1947 till today is displayed at the terminus built with a heritage look.
