Ludhiana: Environmental activists, including members of Buddha Darya Action Front and Public Action Committee, took out the sixth phase of ‘padyatra-2’on both sides of the Gill Road bridge on Sunday. They raised their voices against occurrence of premature deaths due to
pollution and protested against the aggravating situation of pollution in Buddha Darya; Satluj; sewer lines, subsoil water and degradation of soil.
They interacted with the passers-by, auto-rickshaw drivers, rehri vendors and shopkeepers in the area, to apprise them of the rampant water and air pollution. The activists also demanded
justice for the Giaspura tragedy victims and asked the authorities to ensure exhaustive investigations so that no such tragic incidents are repeated. The acitvists visited Gill MLA Jiwan Singh Sangowal’s office in Sangowal village and handed over a memorandum to his PRO.
They activists said that they’ll continue the drive against the pollution of Buddha Darya to save Satluj. Phase-7 of ‘padyatra-2’will be carried out on the Canal Bridge on Ayali Road, they added. tnn
