Roads flooded with sewage, flag residents; corpn says cleanup on
The stench of sewage hangs in the air, residents of the sector allege
GURGAON: Sewage overflowing on to the roads, parks and vacant plots in Sector 10A has become a perennial problem for the residents living here, with no solution given by the civic body despite repeated complaints.
Residents say they have been grappling with overflowing sewers at multiple locations in the sector, creating unhygienic conditions as the stench hangs in the air.
Motorists and pedestrians are forced to wade through dirty water on the road, they allege. Pawan Yadav, one of the residents, said whenever they have complained, the staff would clean the sewer line but the problem would resurface again within a few days.
“Temporary solutions were provided, and they didn’t last long as the MCG is unable to fix the main cause of the problem. We have been complaining to the MCG to rectify the problem but all we ever got were false assurances,” he said.
Besides being an eyesore, the accumulated dirty water, residents say, poses a threat of vector-borne disease. “Since our area is low-lying, there are three sump wells through which sewer water gets pumped out to the master sewer line.
However, only one is functional and sometimes even that doesn’t work. We have requested MCG to identify the cause of the problem and lay the requisite infrastructure with capacity to cater to the current demand,” said Udayvir Singh, former RWA president. Meanwhile, a senior MCG official said, “The cleaning of the sewer line on the 18-metre road is under progress, along with this we are repairing and replacing the broken manhole too. We will take up work for the internal lanes once we clean the main sewer line of the sector.”
