TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira stopped from boarding Dubai flight in Kolkata

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira along with the couple’s children had to return back from the Kolkata airport on Monday morning after being told by immigration officials that she cannot fly to Dubai.
Rujira is likely to challenge this in the Supreme court. The Enforcement Directorate during the day has asked her to appear for questioning in its Kolkata office at 11am on Thursday.
In a statement, Rujira’s lawyers said, “On September 5, 2022, the Supreme Court was pleased to take note of the submission of the Learned Solicitor General of India that no coercive steps shall be taken against Abhishek and Rujira and that there are no travel restrictions on them.” The statement said, “Subsequently, Rujira Banerjee had travelled to the USA without any objection from ED from 05.10.2022 till 18.10.2022. Rujira Banerjee had not been stopped from travelling abroad during the on-going investigation carried out by ED. She has till today not been called for interrogating except once on 23.06.2022 which she duly complied with.”
The statement said though not necessary, she had emailed ED on June 3 and “informed that she intends to visit Dubai from 05.06.2023 to 13.6.2023 with her children. There was no response/communication from ED objecting to such visit.” “Today in gross violation of Supreme Court orders on 05.06.2023 when Rujira reached the NSCBI Airport, she was stopped at the immigration along with her minor kids and informed that she cannot travel abroad. She was also handed over a copy of the summon dated 05.06.2023 thereby directing her to appear before ED office at Kolkata on 08.06.2023.”
Neither the Immigration department nor the ED issue any statement in this regard immediately. It has been learnt that there is a pending look out circular against her by ED.
