SRINAGAR: PDP president and former CM of the erstwhile state of J&K Mehbooba Mufti has been issued a full-term passport three years after she applied for the same. Mehbooba on Sunday confirmed receiving the document.
In March this year, the Delhi high court had asked the J&K administration and the regional passport authority to decide within three months about issuing a fresh full-term passport to the PDP chief.
Mehbooba’s passport had expired on May 31, 2019. But following the nullification of Article 370 on August 5 that year, the PDP chief was arrested and released only after 14 months.
The former CM applied for a fresh passport after her release in 2020 but she was denied the same on the basis of the adverse CID report against her. Mehbooba then communicated the matter to external affairs minister S Jaishankar, seeking his intervention in getting her passport issued. However, ultimately, she had to move the Delhi high court in March this year for direction.
