Man suffers burns dousing house fire

Colva: Three fire incidents were reported in Curtorim and Benaulim on Monday wherein one person sustained injuries.
In Curtorim, a blaze erupted at Caitano Minguel D’Silva’s residence at around 4am. While D’Silva initially attempted to douse the blaze himself, he ended up sustaining 30% burn injuries.
He is currently undergoing treatment at the South Goa district hospital.
Besides the damage to furniture, television, fridge and laptop, three two-wheelers also went up in flames causing D’Silva a loss of Rs 7 lakh.
Firefighters from Margao and Curchorem battled the inferno for four hours.
The personel said that they could save property worth around Rs 10 lakh. They are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Fire personnel also attended to calls from Benaulim where two kiosks were gutted in fire.
While ruling out foul play, police said it could be a case of negligence of a person flinging a cigarette from a car while leaving the beach.
