Ludhiana: City’s prominent bicycle manufacturers have stressed upon the need for having dedicated bicycle lanes on the main roads of the city, including the stretches along
the national highway leading to industrial areas. They approached Rajya Sabha MP from city Sanjeev Arora and sought his help in this matter.
After discussions with the businessmen, Arora fixed a meeting with officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials on Monday, during which he will deliberate upon the feasibility of having bicycle lanes on the road under NHAI.
United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) ex-president Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma said, "Owing to the increase in number of vehicles and accidents on city roads, a huge number of people refrain from using bicycles. Out of safety concerns, even our factory workers, who earlier used bicycles to commute take auto-rickshaws.” tnn
