Man held for murder of father-in-law at Tivim

The police arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly assaulting and murdering his father-in-law at Tivim. The accused has been remanded to four-day police custody by
the local court.

According to police the accused Joniton D’Souza was residing at his in-law’s place at Tivim along with his family for a long time, due to which his father-in-law Denise Paul Dias (64) was against him and has often abused the accused to make him leave his place. Upset over the issue, D’Souza had threatened to assault his father-in-law.

Police said that the incident took place on Saturday night at around 9.45 p.m. when the deceased asked the accused to leave his house. The accused had allegedly consumed alcohol and brutally assaulted his father-in-law. He was immediately rushed to the District Hospital where doctors after examination declared him dead.  

On receipt of information the Colvale police rushed to the spot and conducted the panchanama and detained the accused. The body was shifted to Goa Medical College at Bambolim on Sunday morning for autopsy.

Colvale police registered an offence under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code against the accused Joniton D’souza and arrested him.

The accused was further produced before the local court on Monday which remanded him to four-day police custody.

Under the supervision of PI Colvale Somnath Mahajik, PSI Kunal Naik is investigating the case.
