Dumka SP orders probe against police station in-charge
Dumka: Dumka superintendent of police (SP) Ambar Lakda has ordered a probe into the alleged role of the officer in-charge (OC) of the Hansdiha police station, Jitendra Kumar, in extorting Rs 40,000 from the owner of a truck for freeing the vehicle that was seized near a roadside hotel a few days ago.
The probe was ordered after an audio tape of the talks between an office bearer of the Bihar truck owners’ association and the OC went viral on Sunday.
BJP legislative party leader Babulal Marandi retweeted the viral conversation, raising questions about the state government.
In the purported video, the office bearer of the truck owners’ association claimed to be in possession of evidences against the OC. He also claimed that a hotelier handed over the bribe amount to the police.
“If you want, I can produce the evidences which speaks volume about your conduct,” the alleged office bearer, who identified himself as Pankaj Kumar Singh, said while speaking to the OC.
But the OC returned the bribe amount after the video went viral. The OC and his subordinates have been running an ‘extortion racket’ from the police station itself, he alleged.
SP Lakda said, “I have directed a DSP-rank officer to conduct a probe. Suitable action will be taken against whoever is found guilty.”
Meanwhile, Dumka sub-divisional officer (civil) Kaushal Kumar raided the roadside hotel on Sunday evening and reportedly seized incriminating documents allegedly suggesting the prevailing nexus between the police and the mafias involved in illegal mining and transportation.
