Noida: Five people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly making and selling counterfeit dairy products of Amul. Police recovered materials worth around Rs 65 lakh, including ghee, butter and packaging items, from a house in Sector 70, from where they were nabbed.
The five persons have been identified as Sanjay Singh, a resident of Sector 70, Rajkumar Singh and Sajid, belonging to Ghaziabad; Ashif Ali from Bhojpur; and Deepak Kumar, a native of Hapur.
Meanwhile, six other gang members are on the run. They have been identified as Rajneesh, Sanjay's brother Dhananjay, Mujahid, Mulla ji, Fariyaad, and Azaad.
"We received information that some people were making duplicate ghee and butter in huge quantities in a house in Sector 70. We conducted a raid and found many empty packets of Amul butter and ghee. When we questioned the people at the house, they revealed that they used to purchase butter and ghee at cheap rates from Delhi. Then they took it to the house where they used to change the wrapper with Amul's packaging," said Ram Badan Singh, DCP (Central Noida).
"They used to buy 100 gm of butter for Rs 14 from Delhi, and after changing the packaging, they sold it for Rs 54. Their customers were roadside vendors selling fast food, parathas, etc.," added the DCP.
The accused have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for cheating), 272 (adulteration of food or drink intended for sale), and 273 (sale of noxious food or drink). They were produced before a magistrate on Sunday, who sent them to judicial custody.
