Madurai Railway Division honours staff who identified crack on train bogie

MADURAI: Madurai Railway Division on Monday honoured the railway staff who spotted a crack on a bogie attached to Kollam – Chennai Egmore Express train at Sengottai.
Divisional railway manager P Ananth presented the safety award to S Raghupathy, a carriage and wagon technician at Sengottai railway, during the weekly safety meeting on Monday.
No 16102 Kollam – Chennai Egmore Express departed from Kollam at 12.15pm as per its schedule on Sunday. The train used to reach Chennai Egmore at 3.15am the next day. The train reached Sengottai at 3pm.
While the train was entering the station, Ragupathy conducted a rolling in examination and safety check to ensure the safe working of the train engine and coaches. He detected a developing sole bar crack on the trailing bogie (four-wheel set) of S3 coach positioned seventh from the engine.
Based on the finding, the coach was detached from the formation at Sengottai itself by providing temporary accommodation to the passengers in other coaches. At Madurai Junction, a sleeper coach was added to the formation to accommodate passengers of S3 Coach.

Additional railway manager T Ramesh Babu, senior divisional mechanical engineer P Satheesh Saravanan, senior divisional safety officer Mohaideen Pitchai and other officers were present on the occasion.
