Bokaro to make profile of rivers to develop conservation plans
Bokaro: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kuldeep Chowdhary has instructed the concerned departments to prepare a comprehensive profile of the rivers flowing through Bokaro district.
The aim is to identify the sources of origin, entry points in the district, routes, and the panchayats through which these rivers flow. “This initiative will help in preparing effective strategies for cleaning and preserving these rivers. The dam division and the irrigation department have been directed to coordinate and complete this task at the earliest,” the DC said on Sunday.
The DC has urged all departments to update the data on the environmental portal using the provided format and to compile a consolidated report.
Furthermore, all departments were directed to organise programs to celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 and share photos and videos of the events on the designated WhatsApp group.
The administration is also focussing on the current status of waste management in the district, particularly solid-liquid waste management. They have collected information regarding waste management practices in Bokaro Steel Township, Municipal Corporation Chas and Phusro Municipal Council areas. The deputy commissioner has also asked for a detailed report on garbage disposal in the colonies of various industrial companies in the district.
“The report should include information on garbage collection, transportation, and treatment,” the DC added. He urged strict adherence to the guidelines issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The DC also assigned representatives from companies such as Bokaro Steel Plant (BSP), Tenughat Thermal Power Station (TTPS), Bokaro Thermal Power Station (BTPS) and Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPS) to nominate officers or personnel responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with these guidelines.
The disposal of bio medical waste (BMW) from the government and private hospitals was also a matter of concern. The civil surgeon Abhay Bhusan Prasad was instructed to ensure compliance with the prescribed standards. Sub-committees were proposed to be formed at both department and sub-division levels to share tasks related to environmental conservation.
