PUNE: The Junnar forest division personnel have managed to trap two leopards in Talegaon Dhamdare of Shirur tehsil, about 30km from the city, in the past five days.
Six leopard attacks were reported in the town in two weeks. While three were on residents, three others were on domestic animals.
The town is known for the wholesale of grain in the district. So many people visit it every day. It became challenging for the forest department to catch the animals. "The leopards killed domestic animals in Chaudhari, Dhamdhare and Salu areas. After inspecting the sighting zones in town, we placed a cage and trapped one animal in the last week of May," said Manohar Mahisekar, of the Shirur forest range.
"However, sightings and attacks did not stop. So we had to set up a trap cage again. We finally managed to catch the second animal on June 2," he added.
