BENGALURU: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to make arrangements for food and water for hundreds of northeast and east-bound passengers who are stranded at Sir M Visvesvaraya terminal at Byappanahalli.
Post the train accident, many scheduled trains en-route to Odisha, West Bengal and the northeast have been cancelled, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at Byappanahalli.
"Hundreds of migrants, including women and children going towards West Bengal and Odisha, have been stranded. Many of them work in coffee estates in Belur, Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru. They are waiting for the next intimation," said Tanveer Ahmed, an activist.
Seeing their plight, some good Samaritans provided them food and water. "We have requested the BBMP and the labour department to do the needful until the train services resume," said Ahmed who used to work with migrants during the pandemic.
